TissueVU is a biorepository that uses archived tissue specimens accessible through TPSR to provide queryable user interface and link to the Research Derivative allowing investigators to pair longitudinal clinical data with on the shelf tissue specimens. TissueVU also created Project PLACENTA, a fresh gestational tissue biobank which is now run through OBGYN to pair fresh placenta tissues with mom and baby data in a consented cohort.
Type of Data
Archived tissue specimens from TPSR linked to RD data
Fresh gestational tissues linked to mom-baby RD data
Years Available
Archived tissues available from ~2005 to present
Description
TissueVU, formerly known as PathLink, is the Vanderbilt tissue repository. Tissues are obtained during standard medical care or from previously approved and completed research projects. TissueVU has the capability to link tissue samples and data to the Research Derivative (an identified clinical database) . TissueVU assists investigators in retrieving archived clinical tissues and linking these tissues clinical data in an identified or de-identified manner. We also run a fresh gestational tissue biobank (Project PLACAENTA) that links consented, prospectively collected, gestational tissue to mom and baby EHR data. Project PLACENTA is now run through OBGYN. We help investigators find tissues based off of phenotypic criteria, or link medical records to your specific tissues.
Strengths
Utilizes on-the-shelf, leftover, and archived tissue biospecimens for research across the lifespan.
Supports investigators by linking tissue samples to longitudinal clinical data.
Affiliated with various cores and tools to assist with project needs.
Limitation
Must have a VU/VUMC affiliation.
Requires a pathologist on the study team to conduct tissue specimen review.
Availability
Must have IRB approval (template language provided).
Pathology reports must be reviewed before sample acquisition.
