Data Resource – ImageVU

What is ImageVU?

ImageVU consists of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT), along with image metadata including study description, exam codes, and image acquisition date and time that can be linked to identified or de-identified clinical data for research.

Type of Data

  • Imaging (MRI, CT, and PET)

    Years Available

    2006 to present

    Description

Sectra (VUMC radiology) is for clinical radiology reads and analysis, image archiving, provider communication, and integration with the RIS. Not for large queries and downloads. The ImageVU team created a pipeline in which millions of CT, MRI, and PET imaging studies are duplicated and sent to the ImageVU Research PACS (Google Cloud Space).

    Strengths

    • Access to an extensive archive of CT and MRI scans.
    • Supported by knowledgeable DICOM experts.
    • Imaging data can be linked to identified (RD) or de-identified (SD) clinical data.

        Limitation

        • Image retrieval is not guaranteed for all cohort members.
        • Access to other modalities (e.g., x-rays, mammograms) is only available on a case-by-case basis and may require extended discussions and preparation.

        Availability

        • Available as a billable service through the Integrated Data Access and Services Core (IDASC).

          • Submit an intake form to initiate requests: ImageVU Intake Form
          • The IDASC team assists in identifying and extracting images and, if required, de-identifying DICOM files per project specifications.
